And I apologize back - I let my mouth run away from me. - Kimber
2.  jgholland 4:46 AM Nov 29
Kimber I will put my apology right here. I like talking to a human with an identity. There is a difference between a cheap shot and true criticism. True criticism always starts off with a comment commending the effort. There is always something good to say about any work. That is followed by suggestions to make it better. A cheap shot is just a slap (no artisic quality, poor colors etc) a rebuff or an insult. The tone is so different it's obvious. I appreciate comments about my safari trips. They are not National Geographic quality but I was there and that's what makes them special to me. I appreciate suggestions to improve my work as well from well meaning astute photographers and artisans. I know I have crossed lines by not turning the other cheek when facing insulting behavior. That's my defensive ego kicking in. I apologize to all readers for these remarks. I will mussel my tongue in the future. I do take it personal when someone suggests that my motives for posting this photo were impure. That will bring out my nasty side any time without apology. But Kimber. Read your comment. Pretend you are writing to your child or grandchild. Do your sharp words generate good will or are they helpful in any way? How would you feel if someone wrote this about YOU? Do the words "egotistical braggart" really describe who I am? Does "self consumed" identify me? You ended you comment on the positive note: Have a nice day.(thank you) I don't think you meant that to be sarcastic. So I will say I hope your day goes as well. Cheers. JGHolland

No more antler fights Jim. You are correct this is not the place for this. And I agree that there are a great deal of very interesting photos submitted. I have left encouraging positive comments on many of them.
4.  Guest 7:11 PM Nov 28
If they get scared then they wouldn't really be artists now would they? Just stand behind your vision and not be so defensive! You're well aware of what comments this shot would provoke and that's at least part of the reason you posted it. Be happy it has people talking....I mean....that's what art is all about, isn't it?
5.  Bobby aneyeforitall.com 6:01 PM Nov 28
I don't want to get into all the bickering, but I must say JG, I checked out your site and Love all the Safari photos!!! great work!
6.  Louise 5:39 PM Nov 28
I second Jim's comments.
7.  J. Martin Harris jmartinharris.com 3:03 PM Nov 28
Not for nothing, but you guys are going to scare away any future submissions for the contest with all this childish behavior. Frankly, I'm getting bored with all the back and forth over one picture, when there are so many other exceptinal pictures in this contest that are worthy of commentary. Find another forum to have your antler fight! Jim

Sorry you feel that way - I have included my name so that you will know where to send your apology. And just for your information, I don't consider myself a GREAT photographer either but at least I am more humble than some. I certainly didn't mean to insult you and it is really a shame that you took it so personally. We all started out mediocre - it is a learning process. No one really enjoys an egotistical braggard. And you really need to learn to take constructive criticism especially if you are going to be so self consumed. Hope you have a great day - Kimber

Colors need to be more vibrant? Hmmmmm I'll tell god to make a note of that. God you're colors are way off...Just ask the guest who can't even spell, type or write a complete sentence. YOU GUYS ARE F U N N Y....LMAOROF.
10.  jgholland 1:55 PM Nov 28
Hey thanks for looking at my photos on my web site. Perhaps you can tell me where your photos are displayed so I can see what a real life top of the line photographer produces. Because if you think my work is mediocre at best I would really be interested in seeing what your idea of GREAT is. Which photo did YOU enter into the contest? OH! NONE? Well at least let me know which ones you voted for so I can see greatness. OH you can't vote? Only members of this site can vote. Not a member? why not? Oh you're not a photographer are you? You're a wanna be.
11.  Guest 7:03 AM Nov 28
i agree with last comment the colors need more vibrance , and if the lady was stading up lokking towards the cam would bee better that her butt
12.  Guest 5:54 AM Nov 28
An overactive ego could conceivably be your downfall. But it did provoke me to look at your website and your photography is mediocre at best. You might want to hold off on the diva attitude for a bit.

:o)
14.  jgholland 12:22 AM Nov 28
Oh the movement of the water. OH the color of the surf board in contrast with the white foaming water and the aqua colored sea. And the lovely young girl enjoying the sun and surf. A most incredible capture. This photo has every element. Movement, interest, color. You are an amazing photographer and a handsome devil too I might add.
15.  JGHolland 12:18 AM Nov 28
Mr. Holland. This is the most incredible photograph I have ever seen. Have you considered submitting it to the Smithsonian? The national art gallery? I can see this as a cover to National Geographic. This should be the winner!!!! You have incredible talent plus you are devastatingly handsome and soooo modest.
16.  GEORGIANNA 5:36 PM Nov 27
SHUT UP JGHOLLAND!!!!! SHUT UP!!!!!! WILL YOU GET A GRIP ON YOURSELF!!! YOU'RE NOT THE WINNER!!! SO GET OVER IT! PEOPLE ARE ENTITLED TO THEIR OPINION WHETHER YOU, J.G.HOLLAND LIKE IT OR NOT!!!!!!!!!! GET OVER IT!!! AND I'M NOT LEAVING MY NAME AS GUEST, MY NAME IS GEORGIANNA!!!!

Only politically correct prissy comments are allowed on this site. All controversial comments will be promptly removed by mother the guardian of our consciences and enforcer of her/his star trek based moral compass. I rate this photo a 5

Provocative??? Man, you must be pretty hard up if you think this photo is provocative. Get a life! Bottom line it's a photo of a woman surfing, not bad, not great but pretty good.
19.  Guest 5:47 AM Nov 26
We all see what you saw in this photograph! Didn't you say "If the girl was wearing a thong the shot would be incredible (but I wouldn't have posted it)"? You can cut the Mr.Rogers act and just be glad the shot was at least provocative if nothing else.
20.  jgholland 5:49 PM Nov 22
Thanks for the vote whomever you are. It is appreciated. Shows there are some really decent people who see what I saw in this photo.
21.  Guest 5:42 PM Nov 22
What Justen? What exactly was I photographing? Thanks Sal...I agree...I am amazed at the incredible action shots submitted by others. I wouldn't vote for this one and Im the photographer. However there is action and the young lady here was enjoying it. After her wipe out she came up with a great big smile. Evidently she was pleased with the level of action. FYI I have that photo too .
22.  Justen 9:03 AM Nov 22
LOL! I Think we all know what you were taking a picture of here!
23.  Sal 6:15 AM Nov 22
Not enough action here
24.  Sandra B. 4:23 AM Nov 22
Oh, forgot... I haven't figured out how to "pose" an action shot either. Great Point. If anyone figures it out.... plese share.
25.  Sandra B. 4:10 AM Nov 22
I understand what you are talking about...... "True critisim", and "reality". None of us know how much a person put into the photo, or how far they travelled to get the shot, without actually being there ourselves. Some people are lucky enough to have perfect natural art to photograph in thier own back yards. Some of us have to travel hundreds, or thousands of miles to find what we hold dear to our camera. I have also had "bad critisim" on my photo. The art of photography is in the eye of the person looking at it. We all like different things. That is why they call it "Art" Even though I am a woman... I do not find anything offensive by this photo. I see the clarity of the waves, and the entire photo, and wished I could have been there myself.
26.  jgholland 3:53 AM Nov 22
I suppose I'm being over sensitive. That's my nature. Less than perfect photos, less than perfect personality. There is a difference between true criticism and dealing with reality though. Perfect exposure is relative, NO ONE poses a subject for an action shot. I can't imagine calling out to a 12 year old girl who is about to fall off her surf board,"SMILE" I see only one problem with this photo; It is only half as good as the many spectacular action photos submitted. I won't even vote for my own work because so many others are just so superior to mine.
27.  Guest 4:56 PM Nov 21
Good grief - arent we all being a bit sensitive? If everyone just says great shot what good is having comments? Some images will appeal to one and not another. Take the criticism and use it your benefit or not - entirely up to you. Oh and great shot
28.  Guest 3:39 PM Nov 21
If the girl was facing the camera, the shot would be better, but still just average I think. It is slightly underexposed, and could use some post process work.
29.  jgholland 5:10 AM Nov 21
Thanks for the positive comments. She's a beginner. She fell. Makes me wish I was a kid again so I could play in the surf like this.
30.  C.L James 6:55 PM Nov 19
Individuals have different views and ideas, that's the beauty of photography!! Personally, I am a true believer of if you don't like a certain picture, don't look! This photo is thought provoking, is she a beginner, does she ride out the wave or fall?? Great Photo!!
31.  Brady's World of Pictures 7:59 PM Nov 18
Forgot to rate this photo. I'll give it 3 stars and a smile.
32.  Brady's World of Pictures 7:58 PM Nov 18
Don't you just love the comments from those who refuse to identify themselves. They like to throw darts then hide. This is a great photo. Not the winner but from where I am (freezing me little hinny) I would love to have taken this photo. Great capture even if you don't win the contest.
33.  Thegeorge 5:49 PM Nov 17
This is truly artistic because it invokes innermost feelings of the observer. Clean minds see one subject, Others see something else and are offended. This image invokes all sorts of response. From sharp critisism to praise. You just can't see this image and ignore it. It forces you to react is some way. THAT'S ART. Like it or not!!
34.  Guest 5:16 AM Nov 17
Wow! I'm just visiting and saw your comments to another viewer. Why so hateful and mean? I was thinking about coming here, but due to so many comments on these images for a contest that no one is really winning anything big, definately makes me leiry! Can't understand the hate here on this website! Your comments are very unprofessional, and I'm definately NOT coming to this website!!!!
35.  Guest 5:08 AM Nov 17
Where is the action? ... "the water moving or what?"
